Local Pupils are presented with BA CREST
Awards by the Darwin Centre and Milford Haven Port Authority
Year 5 Pupils of St Francis
School in Milford Haven received prestigious science awards from the
British Association for the Advancement of Science this week.
The pupils received the awards as the result of a collaborative project
between the Darwin Centre and MHPA’s Community Initiative- a significant
project for the Authority during its 50th Anniversary year.
Following a series of investigative research Field Trips, organised by
the Darwin Centre and led by Sid Howells of the Countryside Council for
Wales, local junior school pupils completed project work to be assessed
for the BA CREST Awards.
The work was of a high standard and pupils from the three of the schools
involved in the project, St Francis, Haverfordwest VC and Pembroke Dock
Community School all received the awards. Certificates produced by
Glamorgan University were presented this week by Marten Lewis of the
Darwin Centre and Claire Palmer, Milford Haven Port Authority’s
Community Officer.
Claire commented of the awards ‘It is fantastic that these young people
have been recognised for all of their hard work. This has been a
worthwhile collaboration and one which I am pleased to say we will be
repeating and extending in 2009, enabling many more pupils to work
towards these awards.’
