| 12 December 2004 18:47:33 Ron Kelton | I was stationed in Pembroke Dock in
Llannion Barracks. I was with REME attached to 22 LAA Regt RA. I was
there for about 18 months in 1950s. I just loved the place and enjoyed
my stay immensely. I liked the local people very much, and had some
great friends there. I did re visit the Dock whilst on holiday in Tenby
a while ago, but there had been inevitably, many changes. We used to
frequent Monty's cafe, and The Bird in Hand pub among others. I get very
nostalgic when I think of those wonderful days. I miss them. . Carlisle 81.153.211.134 |

| Received  29/03 2004Olli Salmela Naval Architect&Marine Engineer Timoteinkuja 8 B 10 FIN-20240 Turku Finland | Thanks for the web photos. I see that the dockyard was huge 100-150 years
ago. I am a Finnish naval architect and have been studing plans of HMS
Vulture built at Pembroke 1841-44. Vulture and Odin were outside my home
town Kokkola in the Baltic in June 7th, 1854. One of the paddle box boats of
Vulture was captured by the Finnish in the harbour of Kokkola, after the
British attack made by 9 boats from Vulture and Odin. The 9 m boat is still
in Kokkola, in very good condition, in a exhibition building. The museum
people of Kokkola are arranging a 150 yrs exhibition of the battle, with
plans (from NMM) of Vulture and other interesting items. Best regards, Olli
Salmela, Turku, Finland Best regards, |
